Whakamana Rangatahi-Youth Mentoring

Our Cromwell Youth Trust one-on-one mentoring programme is designed to support rangatahi aged 11-18 years old (Year 7 to Year 13) who may be facing challenges in their education or struggling with school-related issues. Our primary goal is to help improve their engagement and attendance.

The program is referral-based and integrates the Te Whare Tapa Whā model, which we have found to be highly effective. This model helps us understand the underlying reasons behind each student’s difficulties by focusing on four key areas:

  • Te Taha Tinana (Physical health)
  • Te Taha Wairua (Spiritual health)
  • Te Taha Hinengaro (Mental and emotional wellbeing)
  • Te Taha Whanau (Family and social life)

Additionally, we consider the importance of Whenua (Land and roots) to support rangatahi in connecting with their cultural identity.

Before starting the mentoring, we conduct an initial assessment to determine the specific needs of each individual. This helps us tailor our approach to meet their unique requirements and goals.

Mentoring sessions are held weekly and are customised to address the individual’s needs and aspirations. By addressing all aspects of the Te Whare Tapa Wha model and utilizing our extensive resources, we aim to support their holistic development and equip them with the tools and knowledge needed to achieve their goals.

  • How do I go about registering my child?

Very simply, actually! Cromwell Youth Trust want to ensure we are up to date with todays technology and we have invested in online registration and payment.

It varies, but Youth Development Programmes only operate during the Term  (so we can operate up to four (4) per year)

YDPs typically operate between 3:30pm and 6:30pm – although may operate longer; depending on the programme.

This information is all supplied through our advertisements and online.

  • What about transport?

99.9% of our Youth Development Programmes, that operate outside of The Hangout Youth Centre, depart and return to The Hangout Youth Centre (5A Murray Terrace, Cromwell)

This is to ensure stress free and ease of planning for parents/caregivers and youth.

On the rare occasion that transport is to be organised by the participant then this will be acknowledged in advertisement and online of the programme (please be aware this is an extremely rare occurrence)

  • What age does my child need to be to register?

To take part in any of Cromwell Youth Trusts services you have to be in attendance of Grade 7 through to 13 – so young people are approximately 10/11 years old through to 18 years old.
