Breakfast Club
Breakfast club is a free breakfast hour that we run out of the College Home Ec room daily. The Breakfast Club still plays a crucial role in preparing students for a successful day of learning and engagement. By providing a supportive environment where students can gather, socialise, and enjoy a nutritious meal, we did notice more of an uptake on youth making or taking something for lunch, which in a few particular cases, we knew was because there was not food in the cupboards at home.
Emotional and Social Support
The Breakfast Club fosters a sense of community and belonging. It offers students a safe space to connect with peers and staff before their classes begin. This sense of connection helps reduce anxiety, encourages positive interactions, and can combat feelings of isolation, which are often common among young people. The informal, relaxed environment allows students to discuss any concerns or challenges they might be facing, ensuring they feel supported as they start their day. One of our focuses this year is having our Youth Mentors join breakfast club more often, so that they can get a sense of some individuals needing some additional support.
